SUICIDE OR SURVIVE

THE BRIEF

Suicide or Survive required a website re-design. A well established and very respected charity, their aim is to fill the gaps in existing services for those who have attempted or contemplated suicide and to compliment other services and supports. Their mission is to create and deliver innovative approaches that educate, inform and inspire people to cultivate good mental health and reduce stigma leading to less death by suicide.

With this new website they wanted to engage:

• Individuals who have or had challenges with their mental health and want to avail of SOS courses;

• Companies who want to introduce workplace wellness programmes in their organisations and change the culture around mental wellness and learn how to help people with mental health issues;

• Communities or individuals within communities who want to introduce wellness programmes within the community;

• Individuals or organisations that would like to support Suicide or Survive.

Suicide and mental health is a very serious and sensitive subject and it was crucial to get the design ‘right’ and portray the right message to the end user.

In a lot of cases, the theme and look of websites tackling this issue use very direct images and messages about suicide itself… images of despair, loss etc.

Tasked with designing a homepage and two landing pages, I decided to take a different direction…. my intention with this design was to be show a place of hope, light, help and support – things that people suffering with depression and suicidal thoughts would be searching for and would find in the Suicide or Survive organisation and their website.

The homepage and landing pages are warm, colourful, inviting and welcoming. They appeal to many: those needing help (those affected directly, schools, community groups, workplaces) and those wanting to help (friends, relations, benefactors).
